Amber Alert: Terror on the Highway
by Phil Boatwright

Nasser Entertainment releases this DVD on July 29, 2014. The dramatic thriller concerns a recently freed convict with mental issues. Unable to reconnect with his ex-wife and daughter, he robs a store and steals a car.  When two teenage girls get in his way, he kidnaps them and tries to escape into the Northwest woods.   He is hotly pursued by police Chief Martha Geiger.  Using the Amber Alert system, Geiger constructs a psychological trap the culprit.  90-minutes long, it stars Tom Berenger, Torri Higginson, Britt McKillip.

PREVIEW REVIEW:  It has a kind of made-for-Lifetime TV feel as the producer seems bent on explaining how the Amber Alert system works.  Mr. Berenger stands out among the cast as the frightening and deranged ex-con.  Director George Mendeluk keeps us engrossed and unnerved throughout this tense thriller by displaying a knowledgeable use of good production techniques.

Not rated (there are a few obscenities, mostly the s-word and twice the soulless antagonist profanes Christ’s name; the girls are put in perilous situations, two characters are killed but the killings are implied rather than shown).
