Anna Foster (Mandy Moore) is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Foster, the President and First Lady of the United States (Mark Harmon and Caroline Goodall) in this romantic comedy. Dating for Anna involves a young man, the Secret Service and an entourage of body guards. No wonder the 18-year-old has never been kissed and is showing signs of rebellion. As the First Family embarks on a diplomatic visit to Prague, Anna pleads with her parents to limit her SS entourage to two as she goes sightseeing. Giddy with anticipation, Anna quickly loses her protectors and hitches a ride with Ben (Matthew Goode), a motorcycle-riding photographer. She and Ben embark on a journey of adventure and romance to Venice, Austria and Berlin, but Ben is more than a friendly freelance photographer. Beautiful European scenery, great background music and a sense of fun fill Chasing Liberty, this years first date movie.

Considering her sheltered past, Anna surprisingly shows no fear in her determination to experience life to the fullest, including beer drinking, bungee jumping and sex. She shocks Ben by shedding her clothes on the banks of the Danube and going for a swim, beckoning him to follow with only her back shown. When she begins to fall for Ben, Anna assumes they will sleep together, but Ben, due in part to his secret identity, rebuffs her advances. But they eventually share a sleeping bag with sex implied. Treated humorously are themes about the appropriateness of truth versus deception, risks involved with trusting strangers, and rebellion against parental authority. But Anna and her parents come to a better understanding of each other. Unfortunately, the dialog is peppered with several obscenities and profanities. That plus the implied premarital sex leaves Chasing Liberty with a slightly negative acceptability rating.
