In this Australian Western based on a true story in the 1870s, Irish-Australian legend Ned Kelly (Heath Ledger) and Joe Byrne (Orlando Bloom), along with their two friends and immediate family, live peacefully in a small town, but the British colonial system despises foreigners in their land and makes life difficult for them. After being falsely accused by the local authorities of stealing a horse, Ned Kelly endures years of imprisonment. He is eventually released and begins life again with his family and friends, but his new freedom is short-lived. While attempting to maintain a peaceful life, he and his family face greater opposition from the authorities forcing the four friends to flee in order to stay alive. Seeking justice and freedom for their family, the Kelly Gang wreaks havoc throughout the land of Australia, attempting to disband the oppressive government.

The portrayal of real life and a struggle against real injustice carries this story from the theater screen to the heart. This deeply moving and motivating film about a familys enduring loyalty to each other in the midst of heartache shows the rewards and fulfillment that can come from sticking things through in the midst of trouble. Through perseverance and concentration on the purpose of their cause, the Kelly Gang endures unimaginable pain and overcomes the obstacle of fear while facing dismal consequences. The film does, however, contain a short nude scene that is unnecessary, for the story itself speaks volumes. The use of four s-words and excessive profanity was also not needed, although it did fit the story of people facing real tragedies and injustices. This good story is unfortunately tainted by too many negative elements to receive Previews approval and is for adult audiences only.
